James Ahern - Speech Communication

Informative Speech

Prepare an informative speech from five-to-seven minutes in length. This informative speech can be about an object, an event, or a concept. Visual aids are optional.

On the day of your speech, submit a full-sentence preparation outline to the instructor before your presentation.

The body of your speech should have three or four main points with an attention getting introduction and a memorable conclusion.

You must verbally cite three different sources during your presentation, incorporate those sources in the body of your outline as supporting material, and list those sources in your bibliography section.

Plan to use 4x6 note cards and deliver your remarks extemporaneously.

Personalize your presentation, engage your audience, and speak about an audience-centered topic.

For this speech, concentrate on the following: comply with the time limit; use transitions/connectives for each main point; establish strong eye contact; avoid distracting mannerisms; use appropriate language and examples; and select a challenging topic.

This assignment is worth fifty-points for the speech and five-points for the outline for a total of fifty-five points.

Time permitting in this course, you will be responsible for handling a three-minute question and answer session following your presentation.

Informative Speech Self-Critique:

Submit a self-critique (essay format) of your presentation within seven days following your presentation.

This critique should be typed, double-spaced, and two pages in length.

This self-critique is worth ten-points. Refer to the instructor Web site for the self-critique informative speech assignment. Late assignments will lose five-points.
