Careers in Network Design and Administration
A computer network can consist of anything from two to thousands of computers. Network administrators maintain all the different levels of network configuration and complexity. Their duties can involve building the network, overseeing the external and internal web presence, or supporting network system backups and archiving activities. Whether they are responsible for the installation, configuration or maintenance of an organization's network, network and systems administrators have been in steady demand for the past decade.
The California Employment Development Department (EDD) collects data about the state’s workforce. These data include information about the number of people employed in the field, job outlook, and wage information. The California EDD predicts for the period 2008-2018 the number of openings for network and computer systems administrators to increase by almost 16% and computer support specialists to increase by over 6%.
