Grads: Here Are Some Things to Know

two graduates looking at phoneThis year's commencement ceremony is scheduled for Friday, June 24, 2022, from 6-8 p.m. at the De Anza College Stadium.

The ceremony is held in De Anza's Stadium to allow for unrestricted seating for you, your family and friends.

Face masks are strongly recommended for everyone attending the grad ceremony. In addition, please come prepared with sunscreen, a hat (or your graduation cap) and water.

Here's some key information to help you enjoy your graduation experience. Be sure to check the main Graduation webpage for updates as the big day approaches.

Remember to File for Your Degree!

All grads are welcome to attend the commencement ceremony. But you must apply for your degree no later than Friday, June 17, if you want your name listed in the official printed Graduation Program.

Caps, Gowns and Stoles

  • Remember to order your Grad Pack – which includes cap, gown, tassel and diploma cover – or other regalia such as heritage or affinity stoles from the De Anza Bookstore
  • Order your Grad Pack online (includes cap, gown, tassel and diploma cover) and affinity stoles – by June 14 if you're having it shipped to you, or by June 21 if you select in-store pickup – to be sure you have them for the big event!
  • After June 21, you may be able to purchase a cap and gown by coming in to the Bookstore on campus, on the first floor of the Registration & Student Services (RSS) Building.
      • The Bookstore is open 10 a.m.-2 p.m. through Thursday, and will be open two hours later than usual on Friday, June 24, closing at 4 p.m. 
  • When you order a Grad Pack, the diploma cover will be held in store and distributed during the graduation ceremony. Diploma covers and frames are also available for purchase separately.
  • Graduates completing their studies at De Anza College with honors are eligible to wear the gold "Honors" stole during the ceremony.

Before Graduation Day

  • Please hang up your gown to remove the wrinkles. You may wish to iron out any remaining wrinkles, but please take care and use the lowest possible setting on your iron.
  • You will be lining up with your division, according to your degree major. If you are unsure which division you are under, please check the list of divisions before graduation day.
  • Please arrange for your family or friends to look after your personal items during the ceremony. You will not be returning to the same seat after receiving your degree, so you should not carry anything with you during the ceremony.
  • There will be limited shade, so plan to wear sunscreen and dress accordingly.

Graduation Day

  • smiling gradGraduates should assemble in the area between PE 6 and the Planetarium between 4:30 p.m. and 5:45 p.m. on Friday.
  • Please line up with your division according to your degree major. Volunteers will have signs identifying the divisions.
  • Volunteers will be handing out name cards:
    • Fill in your name card by printing your name as you would like it to be announced during the ceremony.
    • Make sure you print clearly and if necessary write your name phonetically to help us with pronunciation.
  • The graduation ceremony starts at 6 p.m. sharp.
  • Your name will be called when it's time to walk across the stage. 
  • There will be no rehearsal, so be prepared. Allow time to find your division, find your friends, fix your gown, cap or hair – and to relax and enjoy your graduation!

Parents and Family

  • The graduation ceremony starts at 6 p.m. sharp.
  • The ceremony is held in De Anza's Stadium. You can find seating on the bleachers or on the field. (Seating on the field will be behind the area reserved for graduating students.)
  • No parking fees will be required for commencement visitors. 
  • Please come prepared with sunscreen, a hat and water.

  • Accessible seating for mobility, vision or hearing impaired guests and their companions will be reserved and clearly designated. The program will be sign language interpreted.
