A Taste of History:

Cultivating the Arts and Humanities

This special event was co-hosted by the California History Center and the Euphrat Museum of Art, and featured artist and poet Meesha Goldberg, with a performance by singer and songwriter Diana Gameros.

Proceeds from the Taste of History support after-school art classes for at-risk youth, and De Anza student multimedia projects that preserve and share our local history. 

  • Musician Diana Gameros performed original and classic Mexican songs that tell stories of family, migration, identity, and home. She sang and played guitar and piano, accompanied by Patrick Wolff on clarinet and saxophone.     
  • Artist and poet Meesha Goldberg spoke about the importance of the arts and humanities at this moment in time, drawing from her personal and community experiences as a Korean American farmer and activist. Her multi-genre work includes performance, painting, film, and poetry.

Guests enjoyed snacks from Talavera Tacos and wines from local producers, and

  • Liz Hickok: Morphological ComplexityViewed the Euphrat Museum of Art exhibit, "Sacred Terrain," which explores the beauty and healing powers of plants and the natural world and our need to honor and protect both. The exhibit, presented in partnership with this year's Silicon Valley Reads campaign, includes artworks ranging from marbleized prints and manipulated photography with augmented reality to ceramic and mixed-media sculptures.   • Afterwards, navigated together to the California History Center through De Anza’s historical corridor with a focus on our unique plants and animals from the grape vines and cork tree to the tall palms that once held an owl family. 
  • Viewed "All My Relations," a collaborative art exhibit featuring photographs and interviews by photographer Ruth Morgan and historian Janet Clinger that document animal rescue and rehabilitation work throughout Northern California.

About Diana Gameros

Diana Gameros

Diana Gameros is a singer, guitarist, pianist, composer, songwriter, music instructor and social justice activist based in San Francisco. She has released two albums of original songs written in Spanish and English, and Mexican classic songs. 

Diana has performed with Joan Baez, Natalia Lafourcade, McArthur Genius Award winner Taylor Mac and the San Francisco Symphony, among others. Her voice and music have appeared in films, documentaries and television series; she has been featured in Billboard, Mother Jones, NPR's "Weekend Edition" and other programs.  


About Meesha Goldberg

Meesha GoldbergMeesha Goldberg is a Korean American poet and artist living in Charlottesville, Virginia. Her experiences growing food, serving as an activist, and journeying to sacred places have made her a powerful advocate for the Earth.

Meesha has exhibited her work in solo shows around the country, and her debut poetry chapbook "The Seed is Waiting in the Dark" is forthcoming in 2024 through Finishing Line Press.
