REPEATING CLASSES
All courses at De Anza have a designated maximum
number of times they may be taken. Unless it is
specified that one can retake a course more than
once, the general rule in most courses is that you
may reenroll and repeat only those in which you
receive a grade of D or F.
Although few exceptions to this policy are made,
if you believe you need to repeat a course, meet
with your counselor/advisor.
However, there are some De Anza courses which do designate an option to repeat for credit more than once. Check the Schedule of Classes for each courses repeatable for credit allowance. A number of Special Education Division classes may be repeated more than once, and sometimes as many as 6 times, as per Title V of the California Education Code, Section 56029. Once this number of repetitions is exceeded, a student will need to meet with his or her counselor/advisor and petition for an exception to repeat over the allowance. Because these are special classes, there are sometimes extenuating circumstances that can justify repetition.
Adapted physical education course and other special
course repetitions are requested on a Special Education
Course Repetition Request Form (available in DSS
and APE) and may be granted for up to 4 quarters.
These are done through APE or DSS. Other requests
to exceed the repeat policy must be filed on an
Academic Council petition.Your counselor/advisor
can assist you to complete and file the proper forms
and follow up to ensure that, if approved, you are
able to enroll.
