Priority Enrollment

How to Get Priority Enrollment for Fall 2014

New state requirements for priority enrollment go into effect this fall. The changes are intended to

  • help new students get started by following important steps for success, AND
  • reward continuing students who are making steady progress toward their goals.
  • New students are those who are enrolled for summer or fall. SUMMER and FALL admission application open now.

IMPORTANT: All steps must have been completed by July 22 to receive priority enrollment for fall.

  1. Apply! Do this as early as possible, even if you think you may attend another school. Keep all your options open, and keep your priority registration if you choose De Anza.
  2. Declare a major on your application – not "Undecided."
  3. Select a goal of transfer, degree or certificate.
  4. Take placement tests.
  5. Complete orientation.
  6. Officially choose your classes. (You'll learn how at orientation.) This is your educational plan for fall.
  7. Enroll in – and maintain – 12+ units (full-time status) in order to get the best registration date for winter.

 

  • Continuing students are those who attended spring 2014.

To get a priority enrollment date, continuing students must:

  1. Be enrolled full time (for priority enrollment this fall, you must have been enrolled for 12 units or more in spring 2014)
  2. Have a declared major (not "Undecided")
  3. Have an official goal of transferring or obtaining a degree or certificate
  4. Not be on academic probation for the last two consecutive quarters 
NOTE: You can update both your major and educational goal on MyPortal. Go to the Registration tab, then "My Profile" and "Update My Major/Educational Goal."


In order to receive priority enrollment, students cannot have completed more than 150 quarter units in degree-applicable courses. "W" and "I" grades are not included. Pre-collegiate English, ESL and Math classes do not count toward the 150 units.

Priority Enrollment Order 

In accordance with new state and local regulations, students will be assigned registration dates in the following order.

  1. Veterans, Foster Youth, DSPS, EOPS and CalWorks students who have completed orientation, assessment and an educational plan.

  2. Continuing students who have
    • Enrolled in 12 units in most recent term (excluding summer)
    • Selected an educational goal of transfer, degree or certificate
    • Declared a major and have not be on probation for two consecutive terms

  3. New college students (beginning in fall 2014) who have
    • Completed assessment, orientation and an educational plan
    • Selected an educational goal of transfer, degree or certificate
    • Declared a major

  4. Continuing students who have
    • Enrolled in fewer than 12 units in most recent term of enrollment
    • Selected an educational goal of transfer, degree or certificate
    • Declared a major and have not be on probation for two consecutive terms

  5. New college students (starting in fall 2014) who have
    • Selected an educational goal of transfer, degree or certificate
    • Declared a major

      BUT have not completed assessment, orientation or an educational plan

  6. Returning students who have
    • Enrolled in 12 or more units in last completed term
    • Selected an educational goal of transfer, degree or certificate
    • Declared a major and have not been on probation for two consecutive terms

  7. New transfer students from any other college who have
    • Selected an educational goal of transfer, degree or certificate
    • Declared a major

  8. All other college students, including continuing students who have not declared a major or who have not selected an educational goal of transfer, degree or certificate

  9. Concurrently enrolled high school students
