Registration Information

Prerequisites and Corequisites Requirements

Prerequisites, corequisites and advisories are intended to guide students into courses in which they will have the greatest chance for academic success. Many courses require the student to have completed prerequisites in order to enroll.

How to Look Up Prerequisites

These prerequisites are listed under each course description in the following locations:

If you've completed prerequisite courses at another college, before registering, you must submit a copy of your transcripts to the Assessment Office to verify that you have satisfied necessary prerequisites before you enroll in the following classes: Chemistry 1A; English 1A, 1B, 1C, 2; and any math course.

Definitions

Prerequisite: a course students must complete to show they are ready for a class

Corequisite: a course students must enroll in during the same quarter in order to take a class

Advisory: a recommended course that will help students be successful in a class

Prerequisite Clearance Request

YOU MUST COMPLETE the Prerequisite Clearance Request process before you enroll. Do not wait until the last minute because there may not be sufficient time to clear you for the class you want prior to your registration time. Submit the request at least two weeks before your registration date.

The college has the authority to drop you from any course if you have not met the necessary prerequisites. Any prerequisite or corequisite may be challenged if a student believes that state regulations are being violated. Challenges must be filed no later than 10 working days prior to the student's date to register if the matter is to be decided in a timely manner. Detailed information is available from Counseling and the Matriculation Office.
