SPCH 1: Public Speaking

  1. Display increasing confidence in speaking extemporaneously
  2. Demonstrate effective listening skills
  3. Organize, compose, present, and critically evaluate informative and persuasive presentations appropriate in content and style to the audience and situation.
  4. Use college databases for academic research.

 

SPCH 8: Argumentation and Critical Inquiry in Oral Communication

  1. Critically analyze the logic of arguments.
  2. Use appropriate argument models to advocate positions effectively and confidently in both oral and written forms.
  3. Find, evaluate and cite sources in writing and presentations using proper academic format.
  4. Demonstrate critical listening and comprehension skills.

 

SPCH 9: Argumentation: Analysis of Oral and Written Communication

  1. Critically analyze the logic of arguments.
  2. Write a progression of well-organized critical essays that demonstrate increasingly complex writing and critical thinking.
  3. Deconstruct, examine, and confidently debate contemporary, socially-relevant issues through development and presentation of argument cases.
  4. Find, evaluate and cite sources in writing and presentations using proper academic format.

 

SPCH 10: Fundamentals of Oral Communication

  1. Demonstrate effective listening skills appropriate for interpersonal, group, and public speaking contexts including empathic listening, active listening, and critical listening
  2. Display increasing confidence in ability to use a range of speaking, listening, and collaboration skills
  3. Organize, compose, present, and critically evaluate informative and persuasive presentations appropriate in content and style to the audience and situation

 

SPCH 15: Critical Decision Making in Groups

  1. Demonstrate critical listening and comprehension skills.
  2. Display increasing confidence in ability to use a range of models and methods for problem solving, decision making, and collaborating.
  3. Develop confidence in ability to critically analyze arguments, assess the credibility of sources, and cite sources in their writing and speaking using proper academic format.

 

SPCH 16: Interpersonal Communication

  1. Develop increasing communication competence in building and maintaining relationships by adapting to other people, the goals of the speaker, and the requirements of the interpersonal communication context (e.g., cultural, social, and business.
  2. Demonstrate increasing confidence in the ability to use a range of speaking, listening, and collaboration skills in interpersonal contexts.
  3. Demonstrate effective listening skills appropriate for interpersonal contexts including empathic listening, active listening, and critical listening.

 

SPCH 70: Effective Organizational Communication

  1. Facilitate effective meetings.
  2. Display increasing confidence in ability to apply organizational communication concepts and strategies.
  3. Critically assess the effectiveness and ethics of organizational communication through case studies, self-reflection and shared feedback.
