California Dream Act Application information is not shared with federal databases. Student and parent information is protected by the same privacy and information security laws and safeguards as all other state financial aid applicants.
When do I apply?
- Beginning in January you can apply at www.dream.csac.ca.gov
- Both the Dream Act Application and your school certified Cal Grant GPA must be submitted by the March 2 priority deadline to be considered for a Cal Grant Award. You can check your status at: https://mygrantinfo.csac.ca.gov/logon.asp
- If you are a former Foster Youth you are encouraged to also submit a Chafee Grant application, www.csac.ca.gov

CALIFORNIA DREAM ACT of 2011
Authored by Assembly Member Gil Cedilio (Los Angeles), the California Dream Act of 2011 became law through the passage of two assembly bills, AB 130 and AB 131.
AB 130 allows students who meet AB 540 criteria (California Education Code 68130.5(a)) to apply for and receive non-state funded scholarships for public colleges and universities.
AB131 allows students who meet AB 540 criteria to apply for and receive state-funded financial aid such as community college fee waivers, Cal Grant, and Chafee Grant. This law takes effect January 1, 2013. Students who complete the Dream application will be considered for the Board of Governor’s Fee Waiver (BOG) starting Winter Quarter 2013 and for the Cal and Chafee grant starting in the 2013-14 academic year.
