Classified Employee of the Month Winners

April

Leandro Bibat, a gardener for nine years Leandro Bibat photo

Award criteria: Bibat is one of the major contributors to the upkeep of the campus grounds, particularly taking care of the flowers and shrubs; and he has been responsible for a large portion of the newly landscaped areas around the Administration Building and in the Sunken Garden. “Leandro is quite skilled in his job and knows every aspect of the Grounds Department, but at the same time he is quite modest,” said his nominator. “He and his fellow co-worker, Carlos De La Cerda, maintain their area without question.”

Specifics: Bibat is appreciative of this award and said simply, “I love my job.”

Duc Phan, a press operator in Printing Services for 17 years Duc Phan photo

Award criteria: His nominator believes he consistently provides excellent service and goes above and beyond the call of duty. “I often send in large quantities of material to be printed over the weekend, and every Monday morning it is all done!” she said. “Sometimes I inadvertently leave out some of the information needed to process my print request, and Duc always calls or e-mails me to be certain of what I need. He is always extremely efficient, thorough, friendly and helpful.”

Specifics: During his tenure at De Anza, Phan has improved overall productivity and mastered many new innovative processes related to the most updated technologies. Those include moving forward with high-quality, four-color, digital, large format processes as well as online printing.

June

Jose Marte, a biology lab technician for almost six years Jose Marte photo

Award criteria: A biology instructor who took the time to nominate Marte described him as a joy to work with. “Jose shows a lot of initiative and foresight in providing what I need for classes and offering things I didn’t even think about,” she said. “He is always helpful in answering questions or finding something for me online. And he does it all with a smile!”

Specifics: Marte feels a genuine sense of camaraderie with the Biology Department and others who work at De Anza. “I never thought I could find a job that I honestly look forward to going to,” he admits. “I feel satisfaction in knowing that I help teachers and students succeed in the laboratory.” He currently is taking courses in Native American studies at the college and helps with the annual pow wow.
