Leandro Bibat, a gardener for
nine years 
Award criteria: Bibat is one of the major contributors to
the upkeep of the campus grounds, particularly taking care of the flowers
and shrubs; and he has been responsible for a large portion of the newly
landscaped areas around the Administration Building and in the Sunken
Garden. “Leandro is quite skilled in his job and knows every aspect
of the Grounds Department, but at the same time he is quite modest,”
said his nominator. “He and his fellow co-worker, Carlos De La
Cerda, maintain their area without question.”
Specifics: Bibat is appreciative of this award
and said simply, “I love my job.”

Duc Phan, a press operator in
Printing Services for 17 years 
Award criteria: His nominator believes he consistently provides
excellent service and goes above and beyond the call of duty. “I
often send in large quantities of material to be printed over the weekend,
and every Monday morning it is all done!” she said. “Sometimes
I inadvertently leave out some of the information needed to process
my print request, and Duc always calls or e-mails me to be certain of
what I need. He is always extremely efficient, thorough, friendly and
helpful.”
Specifics: During his tenure at De Anza, Phan has improved
overall productivity and mastered many new innovative processes related
to the most updated technologies. Those include moving forward with
high-quality, four-color, digital, large format processes as well as
online printing.

Jose Marte, a biology
lab technician for almost six years 
Award criteria: A biology instructor who took the time
to nominate Marte described him as a joy to work with. “Jose
shows a lot of initiative and foresight in providing what I need
for classes and offering things I didn’t even think about,”
she said. “He is always helpful in answering questions or
finding something for me online. And he does it all with a smile!”
Specifics: Marte feels a genuine sense of camaraderie
with the Biology Department and others who work at De Anza. “I
never thought I could find a job that I honestly look forward
to going to,” he admits. “I feel satisfaction in knowing
that I help teachers and students succeed in the laboratory.”
He currently is taking courses in Native American studies at the
college and helps with the annual pow wow.
