Math 11 Schedule
This page gives a weekly summary of deadlines and due dates, and dates for quizzes and exams. This page will be expanded as the quarter progresses.
Quiz and Exam solutions will be posted in Course Studio in MyPortal under “FILES” once the quiz or exam is graded and returned to students.
The Syllabus and the Textbook as well as Answers to ODD numbered homework problems and ALL review problems in the Chapter Review section of each chapter are posted on the Math 11 homepage
NOTE: QUIZ and EXAM dates will be announced in class ahead of time and will be posted on the website once determined as they approach. This is a 5 day per week class and quizzes or exams may be scheduled for any day of the week, including Fridays. Students should expect to attend class daily to be available for quizzes and exams, which may NOT be made up on another day.
Week 1: 1/8 - 1/12

FRIDAY we are doing a linear programming lab in class - worth 10 points of your grade

QUIZ Chapters 6.1 - 6.4 Thursday 2/22
Chapter 6 sections 6.6 and 6.7 review sections. They are good to use to prepare for this quiz, and for next week's exam.

Two additional finance worksheets will be distributed toward the end of this week in class
(10 points and 20 points).

Covers Chapters 5 and 6
You are permitted one page 8.5 by 11 inches of notes, 1 sided, handwritten by you, for this exam.

What this exam does NOT cover:
Page 214 Amortization Schedule (the table with many rows and columns) will not be on the exam. This will be one of the worksheets that will be available as of Tuesday or Wednesday this week and is due on Friday next week. It corresponds to homework problem 6.5 #6 which is NOT on our list of assigned homework problems. The construction of the "amortization schedule table" on page 214 is the only thing in chapter 6 that I promise is not on the exam.
Note that the word amortize means "pay off over time". So a problem that contains the word amortize is a LOAN problem. The word "amortize" can appear in any loan problem and we are supposed to know how to do loan calculations for this exam (finding m, finding loan amount P, or finding the outstanding balance P at a specified time.)
The adjustable rate mortgage that we explored in class on Monday is not in the textbook or homework. It is not on the exam. It is posted on the Chapter 6 Resource Page for your reference. The adjustable rate mortgage will be part of the mortgage worksheet. that will be available as of Tuesday or Wednesday this week and is due on Friday next week.
We start Chapter 7 Sets and Counting on Wednesday in class

We will finish chapter 8 before this quiz but the quiz only covers through section 8.3 in that chapter
However, sections 8.4, 8.5 will be on next week's exam without a prior quiz on those topics.
Topics we are covering this week:
Monday: Probability with Combinations (8.3)
Tuesday and Wednesday: Conditional Probability and Independence (8.4, 8.5)
Thursday after Quiz: Expected Value (9.3)
Friday: Bayes Theorem using Probability Trees (9.2)
If you were absent for Baye's Theorem on Friday 3/16, I recommend that when reading the textbook and doing homework to catch up on that topic you also watch the video example posted at the bottom of the Chapter 8 & 9 Resources page (the page that also lists the homework problems to do)

You are permitted ONE PAGE, 2 SIDED of handwritten notes for this exam.
If you were absent for Baye's Theorem on Friday 3/16, I recommend that when reading the textbook and doing homework to catch up on that topic you also watch the video example posted at the bottom of the Chapter 8 & 9 Resources page. A question on the exam for trees and Baye's Theorem together based on the material we covered in this section in the textbook will be a minimum of 10% of the grade on this exam.
Sections 7.8, 8.6, 9.5 have "review problems" that are excellent for practicing for the exam.
New material to be covered this week: Markov Chains - Chapter 10
Note: We do NOT cover Chapter 11 Game Theory - it is not required for this course.

Week 12: 3/26-3/30
Final Exam
Monday 3/26: 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.
You are permitted 1 page of notes 2 sided for the final exam, notes must be handwritten in your own handwriting, not copied or downloaded from somewhere.
You need your calculator for the final exam.
Final exam is cumulative and covers all chapters
Review List of Topics that can be covered on the final exam
This list may be updated as the final exams approach, depending on what we covered in class this quarter. If a section of the textbook is listed, there may be questions relating to that section on the final exam. If a section is not listed, there will not be any questions relating to that section on the final exam.
Chapter 1: Linear Models
Sections 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 1.4, 1.5 heavy emphasis on word/application problems
You do not need to know parametric equations of lines from Section 1.1
Chapter 2: Matrices:
Sections 2.1, 2.2, 2.3, 2.4
Chapters 3 and 4: Linear Programming - Geometric and Simplex
Sections 3.1, 3.2, 4.2
Chapter 5: Exponential and Logarithmic Functions
Sections 5.1, 5.2, 5.3, 5.5 could be on the final exam.
From this chapter the most emphasis on the final exam will be on on building exponential growth and decay problems from word problems and solving questions about time, rate, value, or initial value, or converting either direction between y = ab^x and y = ae^(kx)
Chapter 6: covers 6.1 - 6.5 Finance
The only things in this chapter that will definitely NOT be on the final exam is (a) to do an amortization schedule and (b) discount on loans using simple interest.
Anything else that we covered in class from these sections might possibly be on the final exam.
Chapter 7: Sets and Counting
Sections 7.1, 7.2, 7.3, 7.4, 7.5, 7.6
Chapters 8 and 9: Probability
Sections 8.1, 8.2, 8.3, 8.4, 8.5, 9.2, 9.3
Chapter 10 Markov Chains
