Meet Michelle Nga Doan, Employee of the Month
After coming to the United States in 1992 as a refugee, Michelle Nga Doan enrolled at De Anza, and went on to earn a B.S. in biochemistry at UC Davis and an M.S. in chemistry at San Jose State University. Doan has worked at De Anza since February 2000 and manages the lab for the Chemistry Department.
Doan said managing the chemistry lab requires her to wear many hats, but the variety of tasks is exciting and challenging. "There's never a dull moment," she said. Doan's responsibilities include making sure the lab rooms, chemicals and equipment are working and ready for the instructors to teach classes. She also supervises hourly employees and works with students on a daily basis. "She's a problem-solver," said Linda Wolf, one of her nominators.
Doan was involved from the beginning in the design, construction and opening of the Science Center, where the disciplines of chemistry and biology were housed together for the first time. Lyndell Blankenship, another of her nominators, said Doan is "a true professional, and we are fortunate to have such a remarkable, dedicated and caring employee at De Anza College."
