Q. What is the Eco Pass and how do I get one?
A. The Eco Pass Project is a partnership between De Anza College’s Associated Student Body (DASB) and Santa Clara Valley Transit Authority (VTA), which allows enrolled students at De Anza College the opportunity to enjoy unlimited rides on all VTA Buses and Light Rail for the duration of each quarter provided you are currently enrolled for the quarter and all your fees are paid or you are on an installment payment plan. The DASB Eco Pass is on the Clipper Card. The Clipper card is a reloadable contactless smart card used for electronic transit fare payment in the San Francisco/San Jose Bay Area. KEEP THIS CARD, IT IS GOOD FOR MULTIPLE QUARTERS AND FOR LIFE BEYOND DE ANZA COLLEGE.

Q. How do I get a Clipper Card?
A. You get your personalized Clipper Card from the Office of College Life located on the lower level of the Hinson Campus Center, Room # 157. You must have paid all registration fees or be on an installment payment plan in order to be eligible for the Clipper Card and Eco Pass.  Please note that it could take up to five (5) business days for a new card to become active.

Q. Do I need to get a new Clipper Card each quarter?
A.  NO. KEEP THIS CARD, IT IS GOOD FOR MULTIPLE QUARTERS AND FOR LIFE BEYOND DE ANZA COLLEGE.

Q. Do I need to come in to get a new Eco Pass each quarter?
A. NO, this is the beauty of the Eco Pass being incorporated onto the Clipper Card. As long as you are enrolled and have paid your registration fees or are on an installment payment plan, the Clipper Card will automatically be updated for each quarter. Conversely, if you drop/withdraw from all of your classes, the Clipper Card will be updated to reflect a “non-student” and the Eco Pass will not be valid.

Q. Is there a grace period after the expiration date of the old Eco Pass?
A. The VTA Eco Pass is generally valid for two weeks before the previous quarter ends and two weeks after the next quarter begins. The valid dates are listed below. After this period, there's no grace period. VTA will not allow you to board if you use an expired card on the buses or light rail, and the expired card may be confiscated.

Q. Can I use the Eco Pass during recess periods between quarters?
A. Yes, see the above grid. With a two-week overlap period at the start and end of each quarter, the valid dates overlap from quarter to quarter, which will allow use of the card during winter, spring and summer recess breaks.

Q. I have applied for financial aid and I am waiting for financial aid approval and/or disbursement. Can I get the Eco Pass sticker?
A. Students generally receive their financial aid during the first week of classes.  As previously mentioned, the Eco Pass is generally valid for two weeks before the previous quarter ends and two weeks after the next quarter begins.

Q. Can I use the Clipper Card for other transit agencies?
A.
Yes, but only if you place additional value onto the Clipper Card.  No additional value is needed to ride the VTA bus system and light rail within Santa Clara County, but is required for other transit agencies (BART, CalTrain, Muni, etc.).

Q. I already have a Clipper Card. Can I use it for the Eco Pass?
A.
Yes, you will need to bring your card to the Office of College Life to have the VTA Eco Pass stored onto it.  When we place your Eco Pass onto the card we will also print your name and photo onto the card.

Q. Should I register my card with the Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC)?
A.
Yes, it is HIGHLY recommended that you register your Clipper Card with the MTC, especially if you think you might add value and other passes besides the Eco Pass (BART, CalTrain, Muni, etc.). If you do not register your card and you lose it you will lose all non-Eco Pass values you have placed on the card. To register go to www.clippercard.com and click on the "Register a card" link on the top left side of the page.  You will need to create a My Clipper account.

Q. I dropped all my classes. Is my Eco Pass still valid?
A.
No, once you drop all your classes your Eco Pass will be disabled within 72 hours.  DO NOT THROW AWAY YOUR CLIPPER CARD.  It is still valid for any other values you have added and the Eco Pass can be reactivated when you re-register for classes.

Q. I lost my card. How can I get a replacement?
A. You will need to again come in to Office of College Life located on the lower level of the Hinson Campus Center, Room # 157. There is a $25 replacement fee for the Eco Pass.  The replacement fee is for the Eco Pass not the Clipper Card and you will be charged even if you brought in or bring in a Clipper Card from elsewhere.  If your card was stolen and you bring in Police Report the replacement shall be free. In order for it to be considered as stolen it must be a break in, mugging, theft etc. It cannot be a simple lost property report or that you cannot find it and think it was stolen.  The Office of College Life will replace your Clipper Card and Eco Pass only, NOT ANY OTHER STORED VALUE.  You original card will be disabled and your new card will be enabled. Please note that it could take up to five (5) business days for a new card to become active.
-- If you had any other stored value (BART, Caltrain, Muni, etc.) and you did register your Clipper Card with the MTC you can go back to www.clippercard.com and report your original card as lost or stolen and register your new card.  Your old card will be disabled and the other stored value will then be transferred to the new one.
-- If you had any other stored value (BART, Caltrain, Muni, etc.) and you did NOT register your Clipper Card with the MTC then unfortunately all the old value is lost and you will not be able to recover it.

Q. May I give away or sell my Eco Pass since I don't ride VTA?
A. Absolutely not. The Eco Pass is not transferable. It is a violation of California Penal Code 640 (punishable by a fine of up to $250 and/or community service) if you give away or sell your DASB Eco Pass, or accept a DASB Eco Pass from another student. The College will report any solicitation of sale or transfer of the Eco Pass to law enforcement authorities. Students in violation may be liable for the amount equal to the cost of a VTA Adult Express Annual Pass (approximately $1500) and other violations and disciplinary actions as provided in the Foothill De Anza Community College District’s Student Code of Conduct AP (5510) and Student Due Process and Discipline (AP 5520) including possible suspension or expulsion from the college. All Eco Pass holders shall be subject to VTA’s fare inspection regulations. Misuse will result in confiscation by VTA authorized personnel.
