What We DoThe Office of Diversity works in conjunction with other vital student programs to help students from all walks of life enrich their learning experience. We work to help students by implementing initiatives, providing staff, students, and faculty development and training which address the needs of students to be able to acheive their educational goals in an environment that is free of bias and discrimination. We outlined in The 2005 Pathways Student Equity initiative, specific criteria that every academic and student services department can utilize. This tool can measure and improve their effectiveness in relation to the achievement of students who are historically underserved as well as students with lower rates of academic success. We conduct a campus wide assessment (Campus Climate Survey) every 3 to 5 years to assess the diversity issues on our campus. We have initiated activities in response to our survey findings, such as establishing the position of Curriculum Development Specialist. We provide all hiring and selection committees with equal opportunity representation and training. We ensure equality in our hiring and selection of faculty and staff, in order to sustain and improve the diversity that has been achieved in our staffing to date. We assess the achievement of the specific goals of the campus's multicultural plan. We also serve as a resource for the campus and provide consultation with specific programs, departments, and divisions, who are intiating activities to maintain the diversity of our campus. |
