Mission Statement

The Office of Diversity promotes an academic, cultural and social environment that provides equity and success for all members of the De Anza College campus community, including students, faculty, and staff.

It supports the District and College mission that considers diversity an essential component of student education in the 21st century. The Office of Diversity fosters a climate of healthy diversity that values individual and group differences and respects the perspectives of others.

History

The Office of Diversity first opened its doors at De Anza in 1989, primarily to ensure affirmative action and equal opportunity in hiring faculty and staff. Since then the college has increased the Office’s staff and expanded its services to include students and student equity.

The Office of Diversity now provides leadership in developing and maintaining an environment that supports the diverse ethnic, cultural, religious, economic and lifestyle experiences that are representative of the students, faculty and staff that create the De Anza College campus community.
