A Message from your Instructor
Welcome to Arts 2F / ICS 5
I want to welcome all those who signed up for this online course for Multicultural Arts in the United States. In most general classes
in American Art History, the primary focus has been on the contributions of artists of European descent and the influence of
developments in European art. However, culture in the United States has always been shaped by influences from many different
cultures from around the world. In this class, we will focus on the contributions in African American, Latino (focusing upon
Mexican-American/Chicano), Native American and Asian American art history.
I am Catie Cadge-Moore, and I have been teaching at De Anza College since 1999. If you are curious about my background,
please access my faculty website for a brief biography. If you need to contact me, the best way is to email me through the link on
the online course page or at cadgemoorecatie@fhda.edu. I check this email account several times a day. I will get back to you
within 48 hours or sooner. If you feel you need to talk to me in person, please contact me to schedule an appointment.
I have written an online textbook for this class, Cultural Diversity in American Art History. You may read it on your computer for
free or buy a printed version from the De Anza College Bookstore (http://books.deanza.edu). To keep costs low, the printed
version is text only. You will still need to access the textbook chapters online for illustrations. They are posted at my faculty
website: http://faculty.deanza.fhda.edu/cadgemoorecatie. The chapters are password protected. See posted reading assignments
in the weekly class schedule for passwords. NOTE: Online chapters cannot be printed.
Hours of Study
Be prepared to spend a minimum of 16 hours per week using and studying the course materials.
How to get started in your course
Course Requirements
Be prepared to spend at least 10 hours per week reading, studying, and writing for this class. Also, you will need to have reliable
email and an internet connection. Because the class is 100% online, your hardware and connectivity is a vital part of
communicating with the instructor. We will have five bi-weekly quizzes including multiple choice questions and short essays
covering the assigned readings and examples of art. In addition, there will be five short written assignments based on
supplemental readings that I will provide or on video material available online. There will also be one assigned research paper.
The grading will be weighted as:
Weekly forum participation = 50 points
Five bi weekly quizzes worth 70 points (20 points multiple choice and 50 points essay) each = 350 points
Ten weekly short written assignments worth 10 points each = 100 points
One final research paper worth 100 points
Total Points available to earn = 600 points
A+: above 600 A: 600 - 560 A-: 559 - 540
B+: 539 - 520 B: 519 - 500 B-: 499 - 480
C+: 479 - 460 C: 459 - 420 D: 419 - 360

EMAIL:
Students need to have email and internet access for the class. Students must make sure they receive my class emails by verifying
their mailboxes are not full. Also, students must make sure my class emails are not accidentally going into the Junk Mail file. It is
the student's responsibility to assure email authenticity on their end.
Drop Policy:
Students may be dropped from the class if they are inactive for more than two weeks. This rule applies throughout the quarter.
The online class generates a report showing all students online activity including logins, therefore, all inactive students will be
dropped. Please review the De Anza College academic calendar for the last day to drop a class.
Academic Integrity Policy:
It is expected all students will be academically honest and complete their own work. Any type or form of cheating will result in the
student receiving a failing grade.
Apply for admission to De Anza College and register for this class, if you have not already done so. Completing this orientation
DOES NOT enroll you in the course.
Use the "Continue" button below to complete the Online Orientation. You must fill in and submit the Student Information Form to
confirm that you have completed the orientation.
This course is offered in De Anza's online course management system, Catalyst. Go to https://catalyst.deanza.edu. Bookmark this

quarter. For late adds, it will take up to one day after you register for your account to be created.
