Updates
- June, 2009--
The team continued to meet throughout the quarter. Main work consisted
of planning which interventions to track, designing a successful
retreat, recruiting new permanent and interim members of the Title III
Math Team, and providing input on the July 16, 2009 developmental
education retreat. More details can be found by contacting the Activity
Director, Gregory Anderson.

Job Descriptions for replacements for Bambhania and Fink were prepared
for recruiting committee. Due to the upcoming Title III audit, team
members will need to submit participation hours. Research and Assessment
discussions included a look at current ongoing interventions,
especially in Enable Math and MPS, and the challenges faced by these
programs due to funding reductions. The team may look at trying to
invigorate Enable Math. Guest Andrew Lamanque will explore individual
student progress after completion of developmental classes.
- May 6, 2009 -- Team discussions revolved around
charting the committee's progress and developing the job description for
Barbara's replacement.
- April 29, 2009 -- Gregory led a team of 10 from
various campus divisons to the BSI Regional Meeting. Veronica was one of
the attendees along with representatives from Language Arts,
Counseling, Senior Adminstration, Instruction, and Student Services.
Gregory and Veronica reported on the BSI Regional Meeting. They both
validated the fact that a lot of good is being done on DeAnza campus,
but the efforts here need to be more cohesive and have greater
continuity. Gregory noted that the transformative experiences of
learning about other college's efforts as well as recent intensive staff
training have made a positive impact. Veronica shared that MPS
promises exciting possibilities but is intensive. Rotating among
programs might be valuable to prevent burnout. Discussions ensued about
Math faculty spending more time in the lab. Recruiting for Barbara's
replacement is to begin.
- April 22, 2009 -- The Team looked ahead to the
upcoming BSI Regional Meeting which Veronica will attend, the Math

was begun. Suba Marti will research the transition to Math My Way at
Foothill.
