Internships

The Foothill/De Anza College District does not award college credit for non-paid internships unless the internship is done as a volunteer position in a community, non-profit organization.

To earn college credit, the internships awarded in for-profit organizations must be paid. Students must provide a company letter stipulating the term of conditions and verification of agreement for the paid internship.

The acceptable documentation includes the following:

  • A letter written on company letterhead validating the intern’s position as a paid position, and signed by an appropriate organizational representative
  • The number of hours the student will work
  • The rate of pay per hour
  • The method of payment
  • A contact name and phone number

If the student is receiving a stipend for the internship, the stipend must equal no less then the minimum wage per hour, to ensure compliance with the California State and Federal labor laws.

International Students & Internship Opportunities

All students seeking internship opportunities may seek the opportunity through organizational Web sites and Career Centers.

The Cooperative Education Program does not place students in internships or other forms of employment. See the De Anza College Career Center Web site.

To ensure compliance with INS regulations, international students must have approval from their International Student Advisor prior to accepting an internship opportunity.

For more information regarding international student regulations, please review the International Student Program Web site.
