Cooperative Education Program

Dear Students and Visitors,

On behalf of the Co-op Program, I want to thank you for visiting this Web site.

The Cooperative Education Program at De Anza College was first introduced in 1982 and it has been growing ever since. In this course students are taught techniques for goal setting, which they use to map their career and academic growth plans.

Students will use their current work site to apply classroom knowledge to practical work experience. Student, in partnership with their supervisor and instructor, will create on-the-job learning objectives that are designed to challenge their work performance and academic understanding. At the end of this course, students will achieve goals that demonstrate new learning experiences.

The feedback we receive from students who complete these courses indicate that they experienced an increase in their ability to communicate with their peers and supervisors, improved their work performance, and have a greater understanding of their academic goals.

The Co-op courses are credited and transferable. The units earned may be used as elective units that apply towards De Anza College certificates and degrees in addition to transfer. Co-op units are transferable to the California State Universities, (CSUs) and some private universities such as Saint Mary's College, College of Notre Dame, and University of San Francisco. (See an academic advisor or counselor for transfer information).

Please feel free to view the content of this Web site for additional information.

Thank you,
Carmen Pereida
Cooperative Education Program Coordinator
