| About this Handbook | Meeting Professional Requirements for Early Childhood ProgramsThe Certificate of Achievement meets all California requirements for teaching preschool children in private centers (centers which do not receive state or federal funding for the subsidy of low-income families). The Certificate of Proficiency, when combined with 16 quarter units of General Education, meets all California requirements to teach in public child development centers (centers which receive state or federal funding for the subsidy of low-income families). The A.A. Degree, which includes a specified number of General Education credits, qualifies a student for transfer to a four-year college or university, or qualifies a student for immediate job placement in a broad range of teaching and human service positions. Please see the Recommended Course Sequence (click the browser Back button to return to this page). To see the certificates and degrees for child development and education, click here, then scroll down and click on the Child Development link. The Child Development Training Consortium provides a matrix
giving an overview of the requirements for various levels of teaching
responsibility in early childhood settings. Go to the CDTC
web site and click on the Child Development
Permits icon.
Once on that page, click on the English or Spanish version
of the Child Development Permit matrix. Click on the icon above the
language versions links to view a chart of the school-age emphasis
matrix. For an overview of the Consortium, return to the home page and
click on the Introduction to CDTC icon.
