De Anza College Blood Drive
Do a good deed and receive a free movie pass. Health Services is sponsoring a blood drive with Stanford Blood Center.

When: Thursday, Feb. 4, 8 a.m.-8 p.m.
Where: Student Council Chambers and Conference Room A

You can drop in to donate or register online at http://bloodcenter.stanford.edu/ for an appointment. Blood donors must:

• Be at least 17 years old
• Weigh at least 110 lbs.
• Be free of cold and flu symptoms
• Eat before donating and drink lots of fluids
• BRING PHOTO ID

15th Annual Lunar New Year Scholarship Luncheon
Celebrate the Year of the Tiger as the Asian Pacific American Staff Association (APASA) hosts its annual fund-raiser to benefit De Anza students. Enjoy Asian cuisine, live performances and prize drawings.

When: Thursday, Feb. 18, 11:30 a.m-1 p.m.
Where: Conference Rooms A & B
Cost: $18 for staff, $13 for students

Student Learning Outcomes Opportunity
De Anza needs leadership from discipline experts for its self-study. Become an Assessment Liaison for your department/division and earn three hours of PGA/PAA credit in a lively and productive workshop. Learn how to coordinate workshops and facilitate discussions with colleagues on the different phases of the SLO assessment cycle.

Child Development Center Accepting Applications
Although the center is currently full, it is accepting waiting list applications for children ages 18 months to 5 years for future openings. Full-time, low-income students may be eligible for low- or no-cost child care. Faculty please share this information with your students. Auto Tech Club Donates to Help U.S. Troops
By unanimous vote, the 70-member Auto Tech Club donated $2,000 last fall to "Operation Light Saber," a program started by Off Road Adventures magazine. The program delivers donated vehicle lights to troops overseas to make repairs on broken down or damaged vehicles. To date, Auto Tech's donation is the largest single contribution they have received.

Two Faculty Members Named Coach of the Year
Head Football Coach Dan Atencio was named Coach of the Year in the Coast Conference and also Region 2 NorCal Coach of the Year. Head Track and Field Coach Nick Mattis was named Coach of the Year in the Coast Conference for Women's Cross Country. Congratulations to them both for their fine work.

Creative Arts Faculty Member in the Spotlight
Bill Mattick, part-time photography instructor, is featured in Color Magazine's March issue for his 2004 series "The Caretakers," an eight-month photographic study of an abandoned train station in Oakland. Visit www.billmattickphotography.com/ to see that series and others by Mattick.

The Employee of the Month Committee Needs Your Help
The Classified Employee of the Month Committee is still seeking new members. Candidates should be flexible, creative team players with energy and enthusiasm for fun celebrations, interested in receiving PGA credit. The committee meets a minimum of once a month to plan for upcoming EOM celebrations and to select EOMs. If you can't serve on the committee, it only takes a few minutes to express how a Classified Professional has made an impact or impression on you with his or her hard work and dedication to the job. Sandy Cardoza recently completed her first year as a member of the De Anza family. Cardoza is the evening supervisor in the Library West Computer Lab, and has worked with libraries and computer-based programs serving students (K -8) in San Francisco and San Mateo counties. Read more...

Joseph Ng, senior administrative assistant in the International Student Programs (ISP), is in his eighth year working at De Anza. Prior to his current position, Ng worked at College of San Mateo for 12 years in student services areas such as admissions, assessment, scholarship and counseling. Read more...
