APASA Scholarship Awards

The Asian Pacific American Staff Association (APASA) has awarded more than $47,000 in scholarships since 1996 to De Anza College students. Current scholarships awarded to De Anza College students include:

Shirley Kawazoe Memorial APASA Scholarship: $1,000

The Shirley Kawazoe Memorial APASA Scholarship recognizes demonstrated leadership and a strong commitment to social change. Eligibility criteria include:

  • Minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA; completed minimum of 12 quarter units; must be enrolled in the 2023-24 school year
  • Must complete the supplemental questions in the application
  • Must provide evidence of community service and leadership, through volunteer (unpaid) activities either on campus or in the broader, local Asian Pacific Islander Desi American (APIDA) community within the past two years

Susanne Chan APASA Scholarship: $1,000

The Susanne Chan APASA Scholarship recognizes demonstrated involvement and participation in community service. Eligibility criteria include

  • Minimum 2.7 cumulative GPA; completed minimum of 12 quarter units; must be enrolled in the 2023-24 school year
  • Must complete the supplemental questions in the application
  • Must demonstrate financial need
  • Must demonstrate involvement by either
    • Volunteering or participating in an Asian Pacific Islander Desi American (APIDA) on-campus club or community activity within the last two years in any capacity or
    • Completing one of the following qualifying courses:
      • ASAM 1, 10, 11, 12, 13, 20, 21, 22, 30, 31 or 32
      • ELIT 24
      • NAIS 31
      • WMST 22

Gilbert Wong APASA Scholarship: $1,000

The Gilbert Wong APASA Scholarship recognizes demonstrated leadership and a strong commitment to activism and community organizing. Eligibility criteria include

  • Minimum 2.7 cumulative GPA; completed minimum of 12 quarter units; must be enrolled in the 2023-24 school year
  • Must complete the supplemental questions in the application
  • Must provide evidence of community service and leadership, through volunteer (unpaid) activities either on campus or in the broader, local Asian Pacific Islander Desi American (APIDA) community within the past two years

Application/Letter of Recommendation Deadline

The deadline to submit the application and letter of recommendation for the 2024 APASA Scholarships is 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, April 28, 2024.

Once your application is submitted, your recommender will receive an email with the link to submit your recommendation. We strongly recommend that you submit your application a few days before the deadline, to give your recommender enough time to reply. 

Incomplete applications will not be considered.
